What is Lunchbox Reading?

Posted by Will Rutherford

Today Weather.com has informed me that i traveled to work in air that was -6 degrees. Sounds bad right? Windchill. Lets not forget windchill. With that? -23. To say the least, this is stay inside, under a blanket, with a good book. Not sure what to read? No worries, Lunchbox will take care of you.

What I'm reading right now:

Thor, Vol. 1 (v. 1)
by J. Michael Straczynski (Author), Olivier Coipel (Illustrator)
In my opinion J. Michael Straczynski is one of the best comic writers of our generation. This book is no exception. There is excellent action, brilliant insight and fantastic humor alongside beautiful art by Olivier Coipel. Go. Buy. Now.

The Areas of My Expertise
by John Hodgman (Author)
While I am currently reading The Areas of My Expertise, to be fair, this is my 24th or 25th time through the book. Informative and hilarious Mr Hodgman is truly some kind of wizard.

American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House
by Jon Meacham (Author)

Andrew Jackson? Thats right. One of the baddest motherfuckers to ever hold the presidential office. He's on the 20 dollar bill for a reason. The first presidential assassination attempt was against him. Did it work? No. The assassins guns misfired and Jackson beat him up with a cane. Who had Jackson's back in the fight? Davey Crockett. Jackson fought 13 duels, mostly about his wife's honor. One particular duel, Jackson was so pissed he let the other man shoot first. The other man did, in fact, shoot first. And then again. Did it work? No. Did the other man die? Yes.
Andrew Jackson. Bad motherfucker.

Tao Te Ching
by Lao Tsu (Author), Jacob Needleman (Introduction), Gia-Fu Feng (Translator), Jane English (Translator)

This book is a great little guide for life. Ive been reading this book for years. I never really stop. Its something to return to again and again. Fantastic book. I recommend it to everyone.

A few that I've Read:

High Fidelity: A Novel
by Nick Hornby (Author)

If your a man, read this and understand yourself better. If your a woman, read this and understand men better. One of my all time favorites.

Ender's Game
by Orson Scott Card

This book is a classic for a reason. The book is spectacular and the audiobook is excellent as well. If you haven't read it, go and get it.

Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly
by Anthony Bourdain (Author)

If you've worked in or around the restaurant industry, if your considering working in the industry and if you know anyone who works in the industry, this book is for you. Bourdains love of cooking, rollercoaster life and unique style of writing made for a fantastic read.

Kingdom Come
by Mark Waid (Author), Alex Ross (Illustrator)

An all time classic for DC. Great writing from Mark Waid and stunning art by the one and only Alex Ross, this is a great example of why comics can be considered art.
